Exploration
Exploration turns hidden world locations into usable economy sites. A site moves through three visibility states, and each state controls what players can see and do.
| State | Information available |
|---|---|
| Unknown | Nothing appears on the Live Map or radio menu. |
| Rumored | Frequency and broad direction from an anchor airfield. |
| Mapped | Stock, routes, radio-menu navigation and the normal site beacon. |
A rumored site becomes mapped when a player follows its A/N signal through the search area and lands by the white-flagged tyre at the true location. Mapping reveals the site; commissioning is a separate cargo step that activates its economic function.
Rumor priority falls with the distance from the nearest mapped, operating Hub or City and reaches zero at the 150 km reference distance. Mapping many sites without commissioning them also slows further exploration: the first three mapped-but-inactive economic sites have no effect, then every additional site reduces all Rumor scores by 10 percentage points, down to a minimum factor of 25%. Commissioning those sites lowers the backlog and restores Rumor priority.
Higher-tier sites depend on regional infrastructure. Tier 2 access requires a level-1 Survey Station and Tier 3 access requires level 2. Demolishing the Survey Station removes the tier access it provided. Cartography Institute increases the number of rumors that can be open server-wide.
