Airfields
Airfields are the DCS map airfields marked with a Tycoon tent. They neither produce nor consume cargo. An active airfield is a storage and transfer point for every kind of cargo, and it has two build sites of its own.
| Airfield at a glance | Value |
|---|---|
| Delivery reach | 500 m around the Tycoon tent |
| Accepted cargo | Every cargo, Food and raw cargo included |
| Storage limit | 8 crates, 16 or 24 with a Cargo Warehouse |
| Build sites | 2 |
| Projects | Direction-Finding station, Cargo Warehouse |
Delivery and Reach
The Tycoon tent marks the airfield, but you do not have to park next to it. What counts is your aircraft's own position: anywhere within 500 m of the tent is at the airfield. Unload with Cargo > Drop loaded or set a slingload down there.
Crates are placed around your aircraft instead of at the tent. This applies to helicopters and airplanes alike, both when you take cargo out of Storage and when you unload.
| Situation | Where the crates go |
|---|---|
| On the ground, within 500 m of the tent | Behind your aircraft, clear of wings and rotor. |
| On the ground, further than 500 m | Nowhere. The request is refused and nothing leaves storage. |
| No room behind the aircraft | The spawn stops. Crates already placed stay where they are. |
| Airborne | At the tent. |
Messages you may see when taking cargo out of Storage:
Tycoon: out of range for cargo here (X m away, max 500 m) - move closer and try againTycoon: no room to place cargo near your aircraft - move a little and try again
Runways are not kept clear. If you stand on the runway, your crates are placed on the runway.
Storage
An airfield stores every cargo it receives. Nothing is consumed there. Food stored at an airfield keeps no Settlement supplied; it only waits there until someone takes it out again. Every stored crate can be withdrawn through Tycoon > My Location > Storage as an ordinary crate.
All cargo shares one limit:
| Cargo Warehouse | Storage limit |
|---|---|
| none | 8 crates |
| Level 1 | 16 crates |
| Level 2 | 24 crates |
A delivery to a full airfield is refused. The crate stays on the ground where it was unloaded, and the normal rules for crates on the ground apply (see Restarts). The message reads:
<Airfield>: storage is full (8/8). The crate stays on the ground.
What counts toward the limit:
- Counts: crates in the airfield's storage.
- Does not count: crates lying on the ground, refused crates and crates already taken out.
- Taking a crate out frees its place immediately.
- Over the limit: only a demolition refund from the Public Works Office can push storage past the limit. Nothing is ever removed; new deliveries are refused until the stock falls below the limit again.
Where to read the fill level:
| Place | Display |
|---|---|
Radio menu, My Location > Storage | Stored x/y |
| Radio menu, site card | Storage: x/y |
| Live Map, airfield panel | Reserve x / y |
Build Sites
Every active airfield has two build sites. They form their own pool, separate from Hubs and Cities. There is no Trust, supply or level requirement: the cargo in the airfield's storage is the whole condition.
Projects are paid entirely from storage in one go. Without a Cargo Warehouse the storage holds only 8 crates, so a project level that costs 8 crates needs an otherwise empty storage.
| Project | Levels | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Direction-Finding station | 3 | Enemy detection network and narrower rumor sectors, see Enemy Detection. |
| Cargo Warehouse | 2 | Storage limit 16 / 24 crates. |
Costs and details are in Projects.
Transfer Point
An airfield is where airplanes and helicopters meet. A C-130J-30 carries up to 24 crates, but it cannot land on a helipad. It can still collect crates near a Source or Factory and unload them into an airfield's storage. Helicopters then take them out there and fly the last leg.
- Collect: an airplane may take crates out of Storage within 100 m of a Source, Factory, Hub or City pad.
- Store: unload at an airfield within 500 m of the tent.
- Deliver: a Hub, City or Factory accepts a delivery only with the aircraft on its pad, so the last leg belongs to a helicopter.
See Aircraft for the C-130J-30's capacity.
Statistics
A crate stored at an airfield counts as a delivery. A crate taken out of an airfield's storage and unloaded at the same airfield again does not. See Player Statistics.
