An aircraft is lost when it crashes or is shot down, or when its pilot leaves it in the air for another slot or the spectators. A loss costs the pilot a deductible and the upgrades fitted to that aircraft type, and it can cost the nearest Settlement Trust and the region Security. An aircraft left standing is not lost but recovered for a fee.
Quitting or losing the connection in the air counts as a loss only if the aircraft was in danger: recently hit or fired at by the enemy, or close to armed enemy units. Otherwise the aircraft is recovered.
| Aircraft | Deductible |
|---|---|
| UH-1H | 3,000 GEL |
| Mi-8, UH-60L | 4,000 GEL |
| CH-47 | 6,000 GEL |
| C-130J | 6,000 GEL |
The deductible is charged in full, even when the balance is too low. Only the upgrades of the lost type go: losing a Huey costs the Huey's crate slots, not the Mi-8's. A hull policy refunds most of the deductible, and equipment cover keeps the upgrades, see Insurance. The cockpit message after a loss lists every booking.
An aircraft left on the ground, or left in the air without being in danger, is recovered. Recovery is free close to a built City or Hub, or to an airfield or heliport the aircraft could have landed at. Elsewhere it costs a fee per kilometre to the nearest such place, up to a cap:
| Aircraft | Per km | Cap |
|---|---|---|
| UH-1H | 15 GEL | 600 GEL |
| Mi-8, UH-60L | 20 GEL | 800 GEL |
| CH-47 | 30 GEL | 1,200 GEL |
| C-130J | 30 GEL | 1,200 GEL |
Insurance does not pay the recovery fee.
For their first 4 hours of flight time after their first booking, new pilots fly without these costs: a loss costs no deductible, no fuel and no upgrades, and leaving in the air costs no fuel and no recovery fee. Only time in the air counts, from takeoff to landing or loss; a flight that ends with a logout in the air counts at most one hour. The cockpit shows the flight time left on entering an aircraft and in the Wallet. An aircraft left standing on the ground away from a recovery point still costs the recovery fee, and Trust and Security react to a loss as usual.
An aircraft that crashes or is shot down costs Trust at the nearest commissioned Hub or City; several losses add up, and they can push a Settlement into unrest. Leaving an aircraft, in the air or on the ground, costs no Trust. Every shoot-down, and every other loss while in danger, costs the region Security. The amounts are listed under Trust.
Crates aboard a lost aircraft fall at the crash site, see Cargo.
