====== Respond to an Ambush ======

Respond to an ambush by protecting the threatened cargo flight, clearing the enemy group or abandoning the route when the cargo and aircraft risk is unacceptable.

  - Act on the warning. The threatened pilot gets it about 20 seconds before the group appears, with the settlement ahead and the bearing to it -- enough to turn away, climb or route around before anything is in range.
  - Identify the threatened route and regional Security on the Live Map.
  - Treat a raw **THREATS** cone as a bearing without range; use a plotted fix only to the precision the Enemy Detection network provides.
  - Warn or coordinate with the transport pilot and choose whether to escort, engage or divert.
  - If escorting an AI transport, remember that it will use flares and defend itself but will continue its route.
  - Clear the enemy group when practical to improve regional Security.
  - If a transport is shot down, search the crash area for recoverable cargo before it is destroyed or abandoned.
  - Remember that ignoring the group has a price: an ambush the transport survives without a single enemy killed costs the region Security.

**Success.** The transport reaches its destination or the enemy group is cleared without losing the cargo. If the ambush was driven by regional unrest, escorting one flight does not remove that pressure; the affected Settlement also needs to recover.
